Thomas Asbury said he his fiancé, Leighann Bryson, are lucky to be alive after seeking shelter in a bathroom at their Pottawatomie County home, where they clenched each other's wrists and prayed as Sunday's tornado ripped apart their house.

“We saw it coming toward us and we took off,” said Becka Ward-Flowers, whose home on Clearpond Road between Fishmarket and Walker roads was leveled by a tornado Sunday evening.

Jim Kinnamon of Shawnee showed up Sunday night at the Expo Center driving a pickup truck pulling a tractor with a front end loader. He was told to head to Bethel Road north of the river where the roadway was completely blocked because of a down tree.
