Jr. Livestock Show wraps up

SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Tecumseh FFA dominated the swine competition here this week in the Pottawatomie County Junior Livestock Show which drew to a close Friday night.
The premium auction, the finale of the annual show, was expected to bring more than $100,000 to the 110 FFA and 4-H students who qualified their animals for the sale.
In the swine competition, Lindsey Underwood, a 16-year-old sophomore at Tecumseh High School, showed the grand champion. The daughter of Tim and Robin Underwood, she is a member of the Tecumseh FFA chapter and this is her first time to claim the top honors.
She said “this feels so amazing.” She won the championship with her homegrown, home-raised Crossbred during her fourth year to exhibit swine.
Her trophy was sponsored by Pottawatomie County Farm Bureau.
Claiming reserve grand champion swine honors was Josh Wise, 17, also a member of the Tecumseh FFA chapter.
Wise, a junior, is the son of Larry and Tammy Wise. This is his fifth year to show swine and his reserve winning entry was also a Crossbred. He said this is the first time for him to place this high.
Sponsoring the reserve grand champion swine award was Gilbert Insurance Agency.
Winning senior showmanship honors with his homegrown Hampshire was Tyler Davis, a 16-year-old sophomore at Dale High School. Davis, the son of Faron and Linda Davis, is a member of the Dale FFA chapter.
His father said he raises his own hogs, and shows calves and hogs. He earned a buckle at last year’s county fair for his showmanship. Davis said he’s been showing livestock for seven years.
ONG sponsored the senior showmanship trophy.
Earning the top intermediate showmanship award was Trent Boles, Asher FFA, with his Hampshire gilt. Boles, 15, is a freshman at Asher High School. He is the son of Jill Boles, of Asher and Mark Boles of Chickasha.
Boles also won the top intermediate showmanship award this week in the goat competition and he claimed the reserve grand champion award in the doe goat contest as well.
The trophy was sponsored by Dent-Tek Paintless Dent Repair.
Blake Kennedy, 11-year-old fifth grader at Tecumseh’s Cross Timbers, and a member of the Tecumseh 4-H, won the junior showmanship award in the swine competition for the second consecutive year.
He’s the son of Regene and Todd Kennedy. He also claimed the grand champion doe goat honors here this week for the second straight year and captured the junior showmanship award in the goat contest for the second year in a row as well.
The junior showmanship trophy was sponsored by Tinker Federal Credit Union.

Berkshire: Sabrina Frankovich, Asher 4-H, Jordan Luman, Asher 4-H.
Chester: Kimberly Timmons, Asher 4-H, Josh Wise, Tecumseh FFA.
Duroc: Shelby Wesley, Bethel 4-H, Clay Reed, Dale 4-H.
Hampshire: Blake Kennedy, Tecumseh 4-H, Braden Jeffcoat, Tecumseh 4-H.
Poland: Dillon Degraffenreid, Tecumseh 4-H, Hunter Dugan, Tecumseh 4-H.
Spot: Blake Kennedy, Tecumseh 4-H, Jarate Condit, Asher 4-H.
Yorkshire: Zach Fowler, Asher FFA, Hunter Fowler, Asher FFA.
Crossbred: Lindsey Underwood, Tecumseh FFA, Josh Wise, Tecumseh FFA.
