Verlin Hart of Agra was selected for the 2009 Oklahoma Association of Extension Ag Agents’ Friend of the Extension Award.

Hart was raised on the family farm near Agra in Lincoln County. After graduation from Tryon High School, he attended Oklahoma A&M College and graduated in 1960 with a degree in agricultural education.  He received his master’s degree in 1970.

Hart taught vocational agriculture for 12 years in Custer City and Perkins-Tryon.  He then served as a district supervisor for the Oklahoma Department of Vocational Education for 22 years, retiring in 1994.  Hart has always been a staunch supporter of OCES, both on the county level and through his involvement with youth projects throughout the state. He also is president of the Cross Timbers Prescribed Burn Association and was instrumental in its establishment in 2004. Hart co-authorized a grant to purchase and fully equipped two trailers for use in conducting prescribe burns.
