4-H officers installed, awards presented

CHANDLER, Okla. —

New county officers were installed and several awards were presented as Lincoln County 4-H members celebrated their annual achievement banquet Tuesday at the Agri-Civic Center in Chandler.

Officers for 2009 lit candles from the candle of 2008 first vice president Meg McConnell. Ross Sestak, Lincoln County OSU Extension Service educator, said the “Flame of Leadership” represents a lifetime of commitment to 4-H.

Officers sworn in for 2009 are James Taylor, Chandler 4-H, president; Adam Welch, Wellston 4-H, first vice president; Jarrod Sestak, Prague 4-H, second vice president; Mari Grimm, Chandler 4-H, third vice president; Jacob Hurlburt, Stroud 4-H, secretary; Jake Short, Prague 4-H, treasurer; Zack Ashcraft, Prague 4-H, reporter; Hannah Fuqua, Chandler 4-H, song leader; Grace Fuqua, Chandler 4-H, game leader; Jeffrey Terronez, Davenport 4-H, chaplain; Jacob Raper, Chandler 4-H, parliamentarian; Matthew McEntire, Agra 4-H, District I director; Michael Dunn, District II director; Joshua Snyder, Prague 4-H, District III director; and Kyle Orner, Wellston 4-H, District IV director.

Officers for 2008 were Adam Welch, Wellston 4-H, president; Meg McConnell, Wellston 4-H, first vice president; Jacob Hurlburt, Stroud 4-H, second vice president; Jeffrey Terronez, Davenport 4-H, third vice president; Hannah Fuqua, Chandler 4-H, secretary; Jarrod Sestak, Prague 4-H, treasurer; James Taylor, Chandler 4-H, recreational leader; Grace Fuqua, Chandler 4-H, chaplain; Sarah Snyder, Prague 4-H, parliamentarian; Matthew McEntire, Agra 4-H, District I director; Heather Snyder, Prague 4-H, District II director; and Jacob Raper, Chandler 4-H, District III director.

Special awards went to:

• Peanut Awards, sponsored by the Oklahoma Peanut Commission — John Lawler, Chandler 4-H

• Dairy Awards, sponsored by Gene Dunham, Southwest Dairy Center, Sulphur Spring, Texas — Will McEntire, Agra 4-H; Caleb Stevens, Agra 4-H; and Jeffrey Terronez, Davenport 4-H.

• Bread Awards, sponsored by Shawnee Milling Company  — Logan Tolleson, Prague 4-H; Jake Short, Prague 4-H; and Jacob Hurlburt, Stroud 4-H.

• Safety Awards, sponsored by the Central Rural Electric Cooperative — Jacob Sestak, Prague 4-H; Jarrod Sestak, Prague 4-H; and Adam Welch, Wellston 4-H.

• State 4-H Awards -— Jake Short, Prague 4-H; Jacob Hurlburt, Stroud 4-H; Will McEntire, Agra 4-H; Caleb Stevens, Agra 4-H; Jeffrey Terronez, Davenport 4-H; John Lawler, Chandler 4-H; and Chance Imhoff, Prague 4-H.

Trip Awards, based on an individual’s merit, were given to James Taylor, Chandler 4-H; Adam Welch, Wellston 4-H; and Jeffrey Terronez, Davenport 4-H. James will serve as a delegate at the 2009 Kansas City Global Conference; Adam will serve as a delegate at the 2009 Western Regional Roundup in Denver, Colo.; and Jeffrey will serve as a delegate at the 2009 Citizenship Washington Focus in Washington, D.C.

James Hurlburt, Stroud 4-H, was selected as an alternate delegate.

Outstanding Junior Awards went to Courtney Coulson, Wellston 4-H, and Jake Short, Prague 4-H. The Danforth Award went to Adam Welch, Wellston 4-H.

County awards went to:

• Agra 4-H, Judy Poteet, organizational leader -— Brittney Carter, Jacob Carter, Mesha Carter, Raymond Carter, Laci Cartmell, Corbin Larsen, Matthew McEntire, Will McEntire, Brandi Revelette, Caleb Stevens and Shelby Stevens.

• Chandler 4-H, Laural Martin, organizational leader — Grace Fuqua, Hannah Fuqua, Joanna Fuqua, Joshua Fuqua, Mari Grim, Anna Lawler, John Lawler, Corin Mayes, Zoe Mayes, Jacob Raper, James Taylor and Wyatt Wayland.

• Davenport 4-H, Debbie Terronez, organizational leader — Ethan Norman, Wade South, Jeffrey Terronez and Faith Thompson.
