SHAWNEE, Okla. —

War’s Nazi boots were storming through
the peaceful countryside
Leaving behind oppression’s yoke and freedom
now denied,
The Panzer tanks were rumbling through
the work of builder’s hands
Leaving destruction trail across the cowering,
fearful lands.
Across the broad Atlantic, in freedom’s choicest nation,
Blessed by the loving hand of God,
rose a mighty generation.
Undaunted by the war ahead, whatever the call might be,
Rose hand in hand our offering, the Class of ’43.
Unendowed with worldly riches, but filled with charity,
They rose to help their brother regain his liberty.
Caring, youthful faces seen in golden memory,
With bonded hearts they stand once more,
Beloved Class of ’43.
