Last week we learned of Jack Abernathy’s wolf hunt in April 1905 near their ranch in Tillman County, Oklahoma. Soon thereafter he was summoned to Washington by President Roosevelt and appointed U.S. Marshall for Oklahoma Territory and, subsequently for the State after November 1907. As a result, the family moved to Guthrie in 1907. Shortly thereafter the boys’ Mother died in childbirth depriving them of her influence and strengthening the influence of Jack.
