During the Feb. 1 City Commission meeting, an impromptu executive session was initiated by Shawnee City Attorney Mary Ann Karns for the purpose of discussing her employment. Under new business, Karns and commissioners went behind closed doors; the group returned an hour later to announce the city would be severing its contract with Karns –– effective Feb. 27.
