WEEK IN RELIGIONBen Ammi Ben-Israel, the founder of the African Hebrew Israelites movement, died at age 75 on Dec. 27 in Israel.Born Ben Carter in Chicago in 1939, Ben-Israel said that some black Africans were descended from the biblical tribe of Judah. He took a group of followers, most of whom hailed from Chicago, to settle in the West African country of Liberia in the late 1960s. The group later migrated to Israel.

Ruby Jeanette (Inman) Emge 77, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015, after a lengthy battle with cancer surrounded by her family at Twin Oaks Care Facility in Lansing, Kansas.
