Although this column began and continues to be anchored in vintage postcards, I do utilize vintage photographs or ‘plates’ from old books to illustrate bygone times and places. The genre is called ‘ephemera’ meaning things, often paper, originally meant to be discarded after use but that have later become collectible e.g., theatre tickets, posters, menus, etc.
