The Shawnee Public Schools board of education will meet at noon today to take on the next phase of using bond money secured at a special election in 2005.

The board will receive $1.76 million of general obligation building bonds, will award the bonds to the lowest bidder and will then consider a resolution providing for the issuance of the bonds.

The bond money was secured for construction of new facilities and improvements to existing facilities within the district.

Construction continues on one of the projects under the bond proposal; the school district’s new gymnasium and auditorium, which is located on the high school campus.

The district’s new early childhood center, located on Airport Road, was recently completed and was opened to students in March.
