Shawnee resident Steven Ray Kaskaske, 55, passed away Wednesday May 28, 2008 in Shawnee.
He was born December 5, 1952 in Shawnee to Norma Jean Scott and Adam Kaskaske Sr.
He graduated Florida Christian High School in Miami, Fla., and attended Florida Bible College. He served in the U. S. Army from 1973 to 1975 as a radio mechanic and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
Steve enjoyed traveling, his independence, his many pets, and always loved coming home to his family and helping in every way he could. He made numerous friends throughout the years and always enjoyed a good laugh.
He married Melanie Turner on June 10, 1973 in Aurora, Colo.
He was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his wife; father; brother, William “Bill” Kaskaske; aunt, Ernestine Green; grandparents, cousins and extended family.
Survivors include one son, David Charles Rice; one step-daughter, Gwendolyn Dainkal; two granddaughters, Dasica and Desmia Rice; mother, Norma Jean Scott of Shawnee; brothers and sisters: Tommy Kaskaske of McLoud, Neva “Gail” Keel of Shawnee, Randy Chakenatho of Shawnee, Corene Chakenatho of Shawnee, Ruth Scott of McLoud, Michael Scott of Shawnee, Jessica Keahnah of Shawnee, Felicia Moore of Red Rock, Okla, David Kaskaske of Red Rock, Okla, Leslie Kaskaske of Oklahoma City, Claudia Kaskaske of McLoud, Adam Kaskaske Jr. of McLoud, John Kaskaske of Shawnee, Rachel Kaskaske of Oklahoma City; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews who all loved and will miss him.
Service will be held 10 a.m. today at the Kickapoo Friends Center in McLoud with the Rev. Brad Wood officiating. Burial will be at the Logan Family Cemetery.
