Sara Katherine Moring, daughter of Herb and Linda Moring of Tecumseh, graduated May 18 from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
She received two degrees: the master of arts degree in music theory and master of music degree in choral conducting.
The Eastman School of Music was established in 1921 by philanthropist George Eastman, founder of the Eastman Kodak Company, as the first professional school of the University of Rochester.
It has more than 900 students, about 500 undergraduates and 400 graduate students, and is considered as among the elite universities for music in the nation. Each year more than 2,100 students apply, with about 280 being accepted for enrollment.
While at Eastman, Moring had a teaching assistantship and taught undergraduate and graduate music theory classes each of her six semesters there.
Moring is a 2004 graduate of OBU, where she received the bachelor of music degree in music theory and composition. She is a 2000 graduate of Tecumseh High School, where she was class valedictorian. Her future plans are to teach music theory and conduct a choir at the college or university level.
She will be the director of the Shawnee Sine Nomine Singers this fall.
