A Kiefer police officer has been killed in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 169 near Oologah.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says Sgt. Les Wilmott of Oologah died about 12:05 Thursday morning when he crashed his patrol car into the rear of a tractor-trailer rig.

The driver and a passenger in the semi were not injured.

Troopers say they're still trying to determine why Wilmott drove into the back of the rig.

The Kiefer Police Department's Web site says the 54-year-old Wilmott has been in law enforcement for about 30 years. He previously served as police chief in Inola and Beggs.
