Jessie Rice Tofpi, 78, passed away Monday, June 23, 2008, at Rose Manor Nursing Home in Shawnee.


Jessie Rice Tofpi, 78, passed away Monday, June 23, 2008, at Rose Manor Nursing Home in Shawnee.
She was born to Lucien and Louise Rice December 18, 1929, in Cushing.
She married Harry Tofpi Sr., in Marshall, Ill, in 1952.
She loved her grandchildren deeply. Her nieces and nephews called her “Mama Jim”. Jessie enjoyed sewing, especially making blankets and shawls for Pow-Wows, arts and crafts, and old music. She was a member of the Sac and Fox Elders Council. In earlier years, Jessie enjoyed traveling with Harry during his 30 year Air Force career. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Tofpi Sr.; her parents; sister, Loy Kay Panzer; and brothers, Joseph Rice and Lucien Rice, II. 
Jessie is survived by her children, Jimmie Lea Blanchard and husband Clifford, Jennie Kay Bemo and husband Ronald, Loa Dru Big Pond and husband Ethan, and Harry Tofpi Jr., all of Shawnee; her grandchildren include Ronnie Bemo Jr,  William Bemo, Stephanie Tofpi, Maureen Bemo, David Blanchard and Harry Tofpi III; and she has eight great-grandchildren.
Tribal Rites for Jessie will begin Wednesday evening at the Rice home. Burial will be 9 a.m. Thursday at the Rice Family Cemetery.
