Disciple is celebrating a rock win at the 39th annual GMA Dove Awards — the group’s first career statue. Disciple took top honors in the “Rock Album of the Year” category for its sophomore project, “Scars Remain.”
Lead singer Kevin Young said: “We are all so very happy and honored to have won the Dove Award for ‘Rock Album of the Year’ with ‘Scars Remain.’ This was our eighth nomination and our first win. Over the years I always would get butterflies every time our category would come up, but would always hear someone else’s name called every time until last night. So needless to say, I was truly shocked. We are so thankful to God for using our music, and to the Gospel Music Association for recognizing us.”
Disciple is now on the “Cross the Line” tour with Superchick, and the band is working on a new project set for release this fall.
The Knoxville, Tenn., band’s first self-titled studio release, “Disciple” (2005), sold nearly 100,000 units and brought home three No. 1 hits. Their sophomore album, “Scars Remain” (2006), has already garnered a No. 1 hit. “Game On” from their sophomore project also was featured on sports shows across the country, including NFL’s “Total Axxess,” WWE’s “Cyber Sunday” and Speed TV’s “Speed Report,” as well as venues such as Wachovia Center in Philadelphia and Madison Square Garden in New York City. The single also was used in promotion for “Criminal Minds” and “CSI Miami.”
Tickets for the Shawnee concert are $10 and can be purchased at the church. Praise Assembly is at 2301 E. Highland in Shawnee. For more information, call 273-6122. Read more about Disciple online at www.disciplerocks.com.
