More than 60 descendants of the James Harvey Grove family held their annual reunion at Grove School, Shawnee, June 21-22. Family members came from California, Florida, Texas and Kansas, as well as many from Oklahoma. David Anderson, Dallas, Texas, was emcee for the event.


More than 60 descendants of the James Harvey Grove family held their annual reunion at Grove School, Shawnee, June 21-22. Family members came from California, Florida, Texas and Kansas, as well as many from Oklahoma. David Anderson, Dallas, Texas, was emcee for the event.
Christine Bachman, Tulsa, read an original poem and Louise McLin, Tecumseh, read a poem she composed, titled “The Cousins are Coming!”
Don Grove, California, brought a slide show, “Grove Picture Tree.” A historical family scrapbook was created by members of the Dell Miller family and was auctioned off. Phillip Grove of California was the highest bidder. Proceeds from the auction, plus other donations and memorials, are given to the school to support the Grove Library fund.
Receiving gifts for being the youngest in attendance were Cooper Kline, McKenna Anthony and Hannah Seikel. Seniority gifts were presented to Helen Vallandingham and Paul Grove, both of Shawnee, and Christine Bachman, Tulsa.
The Dell Miller family of Florida and the Don Grove family and Phillip Grove, from California, received gifts for coming the farthest.
After the meal and the program Sunday, several family members gathered for a musical jam, with two fiddles, two guitars and a keyboard.
The family is planning the 25th annual reunion for June 2009.
