I absolutely love hot oatmeal —

all warm and cozy it makes me feel.

It’s easy to make in my favorite pot

but I have an awful time picking out all

those little black spots.

I absolutely love hot oatmeal —
all warm and cozy it makes me feel.
It’s easy to make in my favorite pot
but I have an awful time picking out all
those little black spots.
“Why are they there?” I ask myself.
Have they been too long on the cabinet shelf.
In my mind this situation I mull,
The solution is, these have to be little ground up pieces of hull.
As I further try dipping them out to ease my mind
They sink to the bottom and are difficult to find
and chasing them around the bowl
They are sometimes hard to control.
Then up pops another one much larger and blacker than the rest.
I dip it out hoping it’s now safe to ingest.
As I polish off my helping right down to the last scoop of milk and spoon every little bit as the bowl I tilt.
I’m wondering, “If oatmeal would be the same without those pesky little things?”
