The Shawnee Police Department will begin response to active shooter training this week. The training simulations will be held at the Shawnee middle school and high school campuses today and Aug. 7.
Sgt. Rod Taylor, training supervisor said he wanted to let residents know in advance about the training so they aren’t alarmed about seeing police presence at the schools on those days.
“The police department has taken precautions and the training is completely safe. We will be set up and use portions of the school facilities for the training these two days,” he said. “So citizens may see police activity around the school on these training days. This training is in partnership with the Shawnee School system and we would like to thank the Shawnee School system and Steve Beall, safety director, for helping make this type of training possible.”
