Tecumseh resident  Shirley N. Miles, 60, passed awayMonday, Dec. 29, 2008.
She was born Dec. 2, 1948 in Barnsdall, Okla. to William Oscar and Hazel Laverne (Nichols) Nelms. She had lived in California before moving to Tecumseh 42 years ago. She attended Barnsdall High School. In 1979, she married William “Bill” Miles in Tecumseh. She worked as a seamstress at the garment factory in Shawnee. She later worked as an office clerk at Pratt's Grocery. She enjoyed fishing and going to play bingo every Sunday afternoon.  She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.  She had two pet companions that she loved. She loved to cook, especially chicken and dumplings and lasagna. 
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Miles, in April 2002; her parents; one step daughter, Debby MacFarland; one brother, Francis David Nelms; and one sister, Hazel Levone Nelms.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Karen Barnett of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Kelli Burton and Kelvin Pike of McLoud; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hampy E. and Judy Nelms of Arkansas and Dennis L. and Gail Nelms of Tecumseh; half sister, Lillie Malone of Montana;  several step daughters; one step son; grandsons,  Cody, Tyler, and Michael  Barnett Jr., of the home; numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008 at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Pastor Keith Ward officiating.
