The 2009 Family Promise of Shawnee Annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet sponsored more than 100 volunteers and their families from host and helper churches May 1 at the OBU Geiger Center.

Other attendees included board members, keynote speaker Jane Ferrell, former chair of the Governor’s Interagency Council on Homelessness and special guest Audrey Seeliger, executive director to United Way of Pottawatomie County.


The 2009 Family Promise of Shawnee Annual Volunteer Appreciation Banquet sponsored more than 100 volunteers and their families from host and helper churches May 1 at the OBU Geiger Center.
Other attendees included board members, keynote speaker Jane Ferrell, former chair of the Governor’s Interagency Council on Homelessness and special guest Audrey Seeliger, executive director to United Way of Pottawatomie County.
The night was filled with laughter, tears and humble appreciation for all the dedicated volunteers, culminating with St. Paul’s United Methodist Church volunteer Dan Hurley accepting the 2008 Family Promise of Shawnee Volunteer of the Year award. 
Regardless of wet weather, Family Promise of Shawnee held its inaugural 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Runs with more than 100 entries in the 5K race May 3.
Twenty-year-old Norman resident Kelby Wood took first place with a time of 19 minutes, 17 seconds.
Thousands of dollars were raised to benefit Family Promise of Shawnee.

Family Promise of Shawnee expressed appreciation for all the volunteers who worked diligently for the Family Promise race, for the race committee who spent many hours putting together the event, for the sponsors and their generosity and for everyone who attended the event.
