Dr. Eldon and Patricia Gibson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary June 8, 2009. The couple was married in Muskogee at Trinity Methodist Church in 1959. They met and got married while attending Northeastern State College in Tahlequah.


Dr. Eldon and Patricia Gibson will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary June 8, 2009. The couple was married in Muskogee at Trinity Methodist Church in 1959. They met and got married while attending Northeastern State College in Tahlequah.
Eldon graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine. He served his residency in internal medicine at William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, Texas, from 1965-69. The couple relocated to Reynolds Army Hospital at Fort Sill in Lawton where he served from 1969-71. They settled in Shawnee in 1971 where Dr. Gibson practiced medicine at Shawnee Medical Center Clinic for 32 years. Eldon was the governor of the Oklahoma Chapter of the American College of Physicians from 1999  to 2003. He is still actively involved within the organization. He helped establish the Volunteer Health Clinic of Pottawatomie County and served there until his retirement. He served on the Board of Trustees at Oklahoma Baptist University for a four-year term and continues to serve on the Shawnee Advisory Committee for the university. He taught Sunday school class at University Baptist Church for about 25 years and has also served as a deacon for many years.
Patricia has been a member of various organizations throughout the years. She volunteered at Shawnee Regional Hospital as a pink lady. She was actively involved in the Junior Service League, the Garden Club, Pottawatomie County Medical Alliance, Oklahoma State Medical Alliance and the Benevolence Committee at University Baptist Church.
The couple has three children, Mark Gibson, Marcia Thomason and Cindy Yarbrough. Mark and Sue Gibson reside in Oklahoma City and have three children, Joshua and  his wife Brittany, Julie and Jordan. Marcia and Randy Thomason live in Shawnee and have two children, Chevy and his wife Amber, and Ashley and her husband Jeremy Bridges. Cindy and John Yarbrough live in Shawnee and have seven children Hanley, Bradley and Kristin Kincaid, Amy Melissa, Katie and Tyler Yarbrough.
There will be a come-and-go reception in their honor at Liberty Baptist Church June 2 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
