Shawnee’s Lauren Alt, who made consistent progress throughout her Shawnee High School tennis career, has been named to the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State team.
As a freshman, Alt was eighth in the state as part of the No. 1 doubles team. She came in sixth at No. 1 doubles as a sophomore and fifth as a junior.
At the recently-concluded 2009 state tournament, held at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center, Alt and No. 1 doubles teammate Cydney Ramirez placed fourth in Class 5A.
The All-State tennis match is scheduled for July in Tulsa. Alt will be a member of the East team.
“Lauren is an excellent doubles player,” Shawnee head coach Terry Woodward said.
“She has improved every year. She played this past season with knee problems but stuck it out.”
Alt, in addition to being a four-time state qualifier, was a three-time regional champion and a three-time conference champion.
Alt was the sole senior among Shawnee’s top eight players.
Woodward also announced that the Shawnee Summer Tennis Clinic is slated for June 8-25. Signups will be held this Thursday and Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The same times will be utilized next week.
Woodward said interested particpants can call him at 273-0869 or just come by the Shawnee High School tennis courts.
