Jim Smart of Wewoka and Sam Grissom of Little were recently honored by the Oklahoma Future Farmers of America at their state convention.

Smart is co-owner of J. Smart Company of Wewoka. Grissom is owner and operator of Grissoms LLC of Prague. Both were among a group from across the state honored for their contributions to teh FFA and the youth programs sponsored by the organization.

Smart is co-owner of J. Smart Company of Wewoka. Grissom is owner and operator of Grissoms LLC of Prague. Both were among a group from across the state honored for their contributions to teh FFA and the youth programs sponsored by the organization.
As recipients of the 2009 Honorary State FFA degrees, Smart and Grissom were special guests at a banquet held April 28 at the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City. Former U.S. Congressman Wes Watkins was the guest speaker for the dinner. Watkins was marking a milestone anniversary of 50 years since serving as the FFA State president in 1958 and 1959.
Following the banquet, the honorees were escorted to the convention center’s arena for the evening’s program. More than 10,000 FFA students, sponsors and special guests were in attendance, representing more than 300 chapters from across the state.
In addition to the presentation of the Honorary State FAA degrees, the ceremony included a talent competition, entertainment by the State FFA Chorus and a retiring address from the state President Chelsea Clifton of Kingfisher. Awards were presented to state champions in several farming and agribusiness categories.
Grissom’s grandson, Clint Grissom, a member of the Strother FFA chapter, was recognized as a District Star Farmer representing the southeast district of the state.
