To raise money for the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowling for Kids Sake 2009 event, Shawnee city officials, along with the police chief and the fire chief, will be among those taking pies in the face Thursday.
City of Shawnee Human Resources Director Kellie Howard said the event is slated for 3 p.m.  to 5 p.m. Thursday in the garage of Shawnee Fire Station No. 1 at city hall, 16 W. 9th. A minimum donation of $5 per pie will get area residents the chance to “cream” their favorite city of Shawnee official.
Those participating include Police Chief Russell Frantz, Fire Chief Jimmy Gibson, Mayor Linda Peterson, Commissioners Frank Sims, Carl Holt and James Harrod, along with city manager Brian McDougal.
Howard said the fundraiser is being spearheaded by the city’s HR and finance departments. All proceeds go to the local chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters for this event.
“We love this organization. Anything we can do that would benefit children is a top priority for us here at the city,” Howard said. “The HR department is working hard to get the city more involved in fundraising efforts in any aspect. We have a soft heart for the kids.”
City employees have already raised about $200 through internal popcorn and bake sales, she said.
