Mildred Evelyn Mullican, 86, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 26, 2009.
She was born May 10, 1923 in Stratford, Ok to Louis Joel Underwood and Zadie Gober Underwood. Mildred worked for many years as a professional drycleaner and seamstress having worked at cleaners in the Oklahoma City, Shawnee, and Tecumseh area. She loved to quilt, crochet, and tatted lace. For many years she made her own clothes and made many articles of clothing for her children and grandchildren. Anyone who saw her backyard in Shawnee knew that she had a green thumb. She was a wonderful cook and was famous for her Thanksgiving dressing. She was very proud of her Chickasaw heritage as her father, Louis Joel Underwood, was an original Chickasaw enrollee on the Dawes Roll receiving allotment land near Stratford, Okla. where Mildred was born. Mildred spent several years at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Indian School in her early years after her mother died and grew up in Anadarko. She married M. C. Mullican on Oct. 8, 1938 in Chickasha, Okla. and they were married for 54 years before his death in 1992.  
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, M. C. Mullican; brothers, Walter Underwood, Alfred Underwood, Jimmy Underwood, Johnny Underwood, Barton Underwood, Cecil Underwood, Clarence Underwood, and Darrell Underwood; sisters, Vivian Underwood, Barbara Underwood Domebo and Dorothy Underwood; brother-in-laws, James Vinyard of Anadarko, Ok and Thomas Ross of Anadarko; and granddaughter, Rhonda Sue Nix.
 She is survived by her daughter, Marcella “Pinky” Nix and husband, Jimmy of Anadarko; son, Walter and wife, Kathy of Bethany; son, Stephen and wife, Kelley of Newalla,  brothers, Billy Underwood of Disney, Ok.; Don Underwood of Blanchard, and Calvin Underwood of Blanchard; sisters, Velma Ross of Anadarko, and Joyce Vinyard of Anadarko; 18 grandchildren, Becky Young of Yukon,  Gina Seals of  Shawnee,  James V. Nix of Oklahoma City, Ray Nix of Shawnee, Marla Massey of McLoud, and Houston Nix of Chickasha,  Tony Mullican of Oklahoma City, Daniel Mullican of Oklahoma City, Katy Mullican of Bethany,  Kristy Mullican of Bethany, Andrew Mullican, of Bethany,  Amy Mullican of Bethany, Brandi Mullican of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, David Mac Mullican of Maud, Van Cleary of Shawnee, and Brandy Lee of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tyler Cross of Newalla, and Trevor Cross of Newalla; 12 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 28,  at Dale Cemetery, Dale, Oklahoma.
