Ron Arthur is looking for a coach, or coaches, who want to make a steal.

A legitimate steal.

Arthur, Shawnee’s head basketball coach, is college shopping on behalf of two of his just-graduated players, Delino Graham and Cody Stanford.

Graham was recently the leading scorer (14 points) for the East squad as it mauled the West, 105-82, at the Big All-City Games at Putnam West High School.

Arthur, who served as an assistant coach for the East team, says some coaches shy away from Graham because, at 5-foot-10-inches, he isn’t a point guard. “He plays like a 6-5 slasher but he’s only 5-10,” Arthur said.
And, therein is the problem — at least in the eyes of a lot of recruiters.
“Everyone these days likes big guards,” Arthur said. “In the day of less scholarship money, coaches want to be very selective.”
Graham, says Arthur, more than held his own against a talented Big All-City field.
“He was very impressive on both ends of he floor,” Arthur said. “He was great on the defensive end and shot the ball very well.
“I am still waiting for someone to take him. I think he will be a steal if someone just gives him the opportunity. There is no doubt in my mind that he can play at the college level.”
Graham will get to showcase his talent at the local level June 6 at the Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Games at Oklahoma Baptist University.
The OBCA Games will be held in the afternoon prior to Saturday night’s annual Faith 7 Game at OBU matching Oklahoma and Texas standouts.
Stanford, who like Graham was a member of the East Big All-City squad, finished with eight points.
“Cody, like Delino, may have to redshirt and earn a spot at a small college or junior college,” Arthur said.
“Cody shoots the ball well enough that whoever gets him will also have a steal.
“There is no substitute for putting the ball in the basket and Cody can do that.”
