  • Tecumseh resident Gerald L. Smith, 74, passed away Friday, Feb. 26, 2010. 
    He wa born Aug. 17, 1935 in Lindsey, Okla. to Minor Kaye Simms and Lottie (Flynn) Doak. He lived the majority of his life in Tecumseh. He was a 1951 graduate of Doyle High School. On Dec. 24, 1958 he married Betty Turner in Shawnee. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2004.  From 1958 - 1959 he served with the United States Army. He retired after 36 years of service with Scrivner Food Service, and also served two years as City Inspector with the City of Tecumseh. Gerald was a member of the Tecumseh Masonic Lodge #69, AF & AM. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.
     He was preceded in death by his wife; his father, Minor Simms; and his step-father, Robert Doak.        
    Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Lesa and Derrick Mew of Tecumseh; son, Kevin Smith of Tecumseh; mother, Lottie Doak of Tecumseh; brother and sister-in-law, Dossie and Pat Smith of Lake Tawakoni, Texas; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Carolyn and Leslie Farris and Vickie and Gary Coy all of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Mindy Palmer, Kendra Smith, Jerica Mew and Corrina Hartsell; one great-grandson, Zach Hartsell; honorary granddaughter, Amber Brookshire.
        Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, at Cooper Funeral Chapel with Harry Smith officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. To share memories, or to sign the guest book on-line, go to www.cooperfuneral.com.
