Oklahoma Baptist kept the offense rolling but couldn’t keep pace with 19th-ranked York in the second game of a doubleheader split Thursday.
The Bison won the opener 6-3 and dropped the second contest 9-8.
Jesse Orozco (1-0) threw six innings of one-hit baseball in the opener, fanning 10.
Chris Lemus led off the bottom of the first with his second home run of the season for a 1-0 lead and Alan Trayler doubled in a run for a 2-0 lead in the third.
York cut the lead to 2-1 with an unearned run in the fourth. OBU scored in the fifth on a double by Trayler and added three in the sixth on a two-run home run by Reece Alnas and an RBI double by Jonathan Gelpi.
Terrence Buchanan, Trayler, Shaun Diesler, Michael Sliger and Gelpi had two hits each in OBU’s 15-hit attack.
Despite an RBI double by Alnas in the second and an RBI single by Bam Davis, the Bison trailed after the top of the fourth, 9-2.
OBU added four in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run home run by Gelpi and a solo home run by Lemus to cut the lead to 9-6.
The Bison challenged in the seventh with an RBI double by Daniel Baptista and an RBI single by Alnas. The Bison had runners at first and second with one out, but couldn’t puth the tying run across.
Buchanan and Alnas had three hits each and Anthony Lopez added two in OBU’s 12-hit attack. Justin Brown took the loss.
Now 3-1, the Bison host William Jewell at 4 p.m. Friday.
