Shawnee’s wrestling squad, idle since last weekend’s dual state competition, will be involved in a 16-team Class 5A regional tournament today and Saturday at Harrah High School.
Coach Larry James’ team is coming off a 50-15 setback to Duncan last Saturday at the 5A dual state meet in Skiatook.
The Wolves will be joined at the regional by Ada, Altus, Ardmore, McGuinness, Capitol Hill, Chickasha, Duncan, El Reno, Guthrie, Harrah, Lawton MacArthur, Noble, Northwest Classen, Southeast and Western Heights.
McLoud High School will serve as a host for its first-ever wrestling regional today and Saturday. Joining McLoud in the 4A competition will be Anadarko, Blackwell, Blanchard, Bristow, Clinton, Douglass, Elgin, Elk City, Madill, Piedmont, Star Spencer, Tecumseh, Tuttle, Weatherford and Woodward.
The top four finishers at each regional weight automatically advance to the state tournament scheduled Feb. 25-26 in Oklahoma City.
SHS Basketball
Shawnee’s basketball squads, coming off a Tuesday night split with Piedmont, will play today at Deer Creek. The girls game will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the boys’ contest slated for 8 p.m.
Shawnee’s girls are ranked fourth in Class 5A, while Deer Creek is 11th.
The Shawnee boys are ranked 10th and Deer Creek is 17th.
Tuesday night, Shawnee’s girls (18-2) rolled up a 42-22 win over Piedmont while the SHS boys (14-6) dropped a 44-42 decision to Piedmont.
Both Shawnee squads will conclude the regular season Saturday night at Carl Albert.
