The Shawnee Lady Wolves, ranked fourth in Class 5A, finished the regular season with an impressive 48-43 win over the Carl Albert Lady Titans Saturday night. The victory sets the record for most wins in a season by a Lady Wolves’ basketball squad at 20.
“We came out a little sluggish and they really came after us defensively,” said Shawnee head coach Wendi Wells. “We kept fighting through the contact, stayed focused and on the course and came away with a very good win.”
The Lady Wolves finally seized control in the final eight minutes of play.
Junior Kelsee Grovey’s accuracy at the free throw stripe paid big dividends. Grovey connected on all nine of her free throws, including four in the final 12 seconds.
Whitney Robinson’s 3-pointer brought Carl Albert within 46-43 with three seconds left and Grovey finished it out at the line.
Grovey led all scorers with 21 points and Caitlyn Ramirez added a dozen for SHS.
