Marie Rose Brand, 92, of Shawnee, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, in Shawnee.
Marie “Grammer” Rose Brand was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Paris, Texas, the daughter of Paul Smithers Rose and Myrtle Ann (Bruffett) Rose. She graduated from Stephenville High School in Stephenville, Texas. She later attended business school in Texas.
On Sept. 3, 1949, she married R.A. Brand Jr. in Dallas, Texas. They were married 34 years before his death in 1983.
At a young age she worked for the family business, an ice plant in Vernon, Texas, but most of her life was spent working as a housewife and homemaker. During her retirement years, she assisted with payroll and planned social events for Pinecliffe Printers.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a volunteer at the Y.W.C.A. Her hobbies included playing bridge, traveling with her family, spending time with her grandchildren, and watching “Days of our Lives.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one sister, Ellen Maxine Rose Sweeney; and one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Rose.
Survivors include: two daughters, Rebecca Ann Maylen and husband, Everett, of Shawnee, and Cathy Eileen Flynt and husband, Mike, of Franklin, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Delanie Flynt Swanson and husband, Ben, of Brentwood, Tenn., Robyn and Dr. Bernd Zechmann, of Graz, Austria, Micah Flynt and wife, Jennifer, of Knoxville, Tenn., Kimberly Rose Paxson and husband, Kevin, of Oklahoma City, Amber Mitchell and husband, Oz, of Moore, and Lily Marie Flynt, of Knoxville; six great-grandchildren, Marissa and Carsten Zechmann, Collin Swanson, Charlotte and Nicolas Flynt, and Finneas Mitchell; two brothers, retired Lt. Col. Milton R. Rose, of Austin, Texas, and retired Detective Frank M. Rose and wife, Paulette, of Eustace, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011, at Walker Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Bill Shields officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park.
