Prosecutors have dropped one of three felony charges filed against a woman arrested, along with her half-brother, in connection with the September beating death of a Prague man and the kidnapping and rape of his girlfriend.
A shooting with intent to kill charge against Michele Elisabeth Gouker, 29, was dropped, but she still faces charges of kidnapping and unlawful possession of a controlled drug for her alleged role in the case, court records show.
District Attorney Richard Smothermon said that after further interviews, there’s no evidence to support a shooting with intent to kill charge. Although evidence shows a shot was fired, they don’t know for certain if it was fired at the woman, he said.
Also charged in this case is Glendon Carl Gouker, 39, who faces a charge of first-degree murder, along with other charges, including rape. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in his case.
According to court documents, Glendon Gouker is accused of killing Ethan James Dorand Walton, 19, on Sept. 8, by handcuffing Walton’s hands and putting tape around his feet before bludgeoning him in the head and leaving him to die in an outbuilding. Walton’s body was found in a 55-gallon drum.
The apparent motive for the case reportedly involved the sale of property. Records show Glendon Gouker was supposed to purchase land from Walton. Glendon Gouker also is accused of luring Walton’s girlfriend into an outbuilding and holding her against her will before forcibly raping her over the course of many hours.
Glendon Gouker also is accused of taking the woman into a bedroom of the defendant’s trailer house, where she remained nude and blindfolded until her escape. During that reported escape is when Michele Gouker allegedly fired a weapon, court documents show.
Michele Gouker has waived her right to a preliminary hearing in the remaining two counts. Her next court date for arraignment is set March 2.
Glendon Gouker’s preliminary hearing is scheduled April 22.
