On Wednesday 2/16/11 while traveling home I saw two ladies placing flowers on yet another cross at the intersection of Garrett’s Lake road and Kickapoo Street. My heart just sank thinking how 99 percent of these tragedies could have been prevented. This is the worst intersection I have ever seen.

I’ve lived here all of my 58-year-old life and this intersection still sneaks up on me. I also wrote an article about two years ago pertaining to another bad intersection at SH18 and Wolverine Road in which a young man lost his life. I guess this too was totally ignored.
But the intersection at Garrett’s Lake Road and Kickapoo needs immediate attention. This intersection does not need an elaborate traffic control system, but a four-way blinking light – caution on the Kickapoo side and a stop on Garrett’s Lake Road side. I know the city is facing a budget crisis and may not be able to hire the best engineers. But if this operation proves to be to complex or difficult for our city’s planning and engineering department let me know. If this is the case just supply me with approximately 100 feet of steel cable, one four way blinking lamp and an electrical tape. I then will pull a couple of my grandkids from their third grade classes and like Larry the cable guy says “will gedder done.”
