Thirteen Tri-County wrestlers harbor medalist hopes entering today’s state tournaments at Oklahoma City’s State Fair Arena.

Shawnee and McLoud have four qualifiers apiece. Bethel and Chandler have two apiece while Tecumseh has one.

Shawnee and McLoud have four qualifiers apiece. Bethel and Chandler have two apiece while Tecumseh has one.
Shawnee’s four Class 5A entrants are sophomore Michael Smith (15-5) at 112 pounds, senior Yahola Jones (26-4) at 119, junior Corey Todd (22-7) at 135 and sophomore Daylan Stuteville (23-5) at 140.
Jones was a regional runner-up to an Altus performer at Harrah. Stuteville placed third while Smith and Todd were fourth-place finishers.
McLoud, competing in Class 4A, will be represented by senior Brent McCormick (29-10) at 112, junior Josh Mouser (32-9) at 119, senior Josh Parker (18-2) at 145 and junior Michael Tiffin (42-6) at 160.
Tiffin was a regional runner-up to Dylan Coppenbarger of Tuttle in action at McLoud. McCormick and Parker notched third-place finishes while Mouser came in fourth.
Tecumseh’s sole entry in the 4A competition is junior Ryland Hausam (34-7) at 152. Hausam was third in the McLoud regional.
The banner for 3A Bethel will be carried by seniors Curtis Smith (15-5) at 135 and Matt Sims at 189. Smith was a regional runner-up and Sims came in fourth.
Chandler, also a 3A entrant, will be represented by sophomores Austin Waters (23-5) at 125 and Blake Barrier (18-7) at 140. Waters and Barrier are coming off fourth-place regional outings.
Today’s first round for all classes will begin at 10:30 a.m. The first round of consolations is set for 12:45 p.m. with the championship semifinals at 7:15 p.m.
Saturday’s consolation semifinals will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the consolation finals at 12:45 p.m. The championship session will begin at 5 p.m.
