Oklahoma Baptist assured itself of a place in the Sooner Athletic Conference women’s basketball tournament next week with a 66-51 win at Northwestern Thursday night.
The decision gave the Lady Bison nine wins in conference and a loss by Mid- America Christian Thursday night assured OBU one of the top eight spots in the postseason tournament.
OBU trailed by five early, but worked their way to a 26-23 lead by halftime.
The second half was all OBU. After 11 first-half turnover, the Lady Bison played without a turnover for the first nine minutes of the second half.
The Lady Bison outscored the hoists 24-6 in the first 11 minutes of the second half to build a 50-29 edge.
“The first half we didn’t have a lot of energy and we didn’t have that fight like we did at Rogers State,” said OBU Coach John Mc- Cullough. “We held them to six points the first 12 minutes of the second half. We came out and did the job.”
The Lady Bison shot 50 percent from the field in the second half. Gabby Mattox led the Lady
Bison with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Bridget Reynolds added 11.
Now 11-18 overall and 9-12 in the SAC, the Lady Bison wrap up the regular season at home Saturday against Oklahoma Christian. A win will give OBU the sixth seed in the SAC Tournament while a loss could put the team in eighth.
The loss eliminated Northwestern from postseason contention.
