McLoud had three medalists in Class 4A and Shawnee’s Daylan Stuteville finished fourth in the Class 5A 140-pound division Saturday at State Fair Arena.
Junior Michael Tiffin of McLoud, competing at 160 pounds, upended Steven Tyree of Wagoner, 4-2, in the consolation finals and placed third.
McLoud’s Josh Parker (145), a senior, and Josh Mouser (119), a junior, finished fourth after going 1-1 on the day.
Stuteville, a sophomore, was pinned by Deer Creek’s Cole Pacheco in 4:38. Stuteville, who went 2-2 at state over a two-day period, concluded the year at 25-7.
Shawnee senior Yahola Jones (119) dropped a 7-1 decision to Guthrie’s Austin O’Connor in the consolation semifinals and concluded the season at 27-6.
“We have to get better overall,” Shawnee head coach Larry Jones said. “Not until you bring home a state championship are you good enough.”
Senior Brent McCormick of McLoud, a 112-pounder, dropped his consolation semifinal match to conclude the year at 30-12.
Junior Ryland Hausam (152), Tecumseh’s sole entry, came in fourth.
Chandler entrants Austin Waters (125) and and Blake Barrier (140) ended their stay at state with Class 3A consolation semifinal losses. Waters and Barrier, both sophomores, were 1-2 at the two-day event. Waters ended the year 24-7 while Barrier finished at 19-9.
Also ousted in 3A was Bethel senior Curtis Smith at 135. Smith, 1-2 at state, finished the year at 16-7.
