The Pottawatomie County Democratic Party will hold its biennial precinct meeting on Thursday night, March 10. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the community room at First National Bank, 130 E. MacArthur, in Shawnee.
This is the grassroots opportunity for voters to get involved in their party at the precinct level. “Becoming active at the precinct level is the best way for future candidates and others who want to be involved in their political party to get involved and make a difference,” said Jo Davis of Shawnee, current chairman of the Democratic Party in Pottawatomie County. She added that this is the first step a person can take towards participating in district and state conventions.
Precinct chair, vice chair and secretary positions will be filled for each precinct represented at the meeting. The precinct officers will then meet on Saturday, April 2, to elect a new slate of county officers and delegates.
The officers and delegates elected at the county convention on April 2 will participate in elections at their congressional district convention on April 30 and again at their state convention on May 14.
Davis said that every registered Democrat who lives in Pottawatomie County is eligible for election to precinct and county positions, as well as positions in the Fifth Congressional District and the state convention.
