Ernest Clifford Betterton, 78, of Guymon, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 25, 2011, at the Grove Nursing Center in Grove.


Ernest Clifford Betterton, 78, of Guymon, passed away Friday morning, Feb. 25, 2011, at the Grove Nursing Center in Grove.
The son of Ernest C. and Ruth (Knight) Betterton, he was born Oct. 7, 1932, in Wewoka.
Ernest and Jeanette Griffis were united in marriage March 31, 1957, in Las Vegas. They moved to Guymon from Belle Fourche, S.D., in 1967.
Ernie was a member of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the V.F.W., an avid bowler and fisherman. He was an electrician with Shorty’s Electric and Sim’s Electric retiring in 2003.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Perry and Curtis, and two sisters, Marie and Helen.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette of the home; two daughters, Connie Fields and Linda Betterton, both of Amarillo, Texas; five sons, Clifford and wife, Linda Betterton, of Choctaw, Mike Betterton, of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Dennis Betterton, of Bartlesville, Mark and wife, Carla Betterton, of Shawnee, and Bruce and wife, Annette Betterton, of Guymon. Survivors also include 13 grandchildren; one brother, Chuck and wife, Jean Betterton, of Grove, and two sisters, Phoebe Ann and husband, Billy Smith, of Joplin, Mo., and Margie and husband, Ray Kerr, of Springfield, Mo.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at the Bunch – Roberts Chapel with Jim Jamieson, pastor of the Panhandle Bible Center, officiating. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, of Guymon.
