Betty Jean Langston, 80, of Shawnee, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at a local hospital.


Betty Jean Langston, 80, of Shawnee, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2011, at a local hospital.
Betty was born in Wetumka Aug. 27, 1930, to parents Lester and Bessie Butler. She was the oldest of five brothers and sisters, who grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Wetumka High School.
On June 8, 1973, she married Lonnie Langston in Shawnee. For 37 years, they were lovingly devoted to one another and did everything together.
She worked at Home Petroleum as a secretary before retiring early, but most of her life was lovingly spent as a housewife and homemaker. Her hobbies included tending a garden every year and keeping her flower beds impeccable, but she especially loved going fishing and was always ready with a good fish story to tell. She enjoyed spending time with family and was always there to give helpful advice or a helping hand to anyone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Bessie Butler; one brother, Jerry Butler; and one sister, Arvina Chapman.
Survivors include her husband, Lonnie Langston, of Shawnee; one brother, Duane Butler and his wife, Linda, of Wetumka; one sister, Mary Hamil, of Weleetka; one daughter, Debra Kelley, of Shawnee; one son, Dwight Watson, of Shawnee; one son-in-law, Coy Kelley, of Shawnee; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Kelley and her husband, Nathan Burns, of Shawnee, and Melissa Lack and her husband, Jeremy, of Shawnee; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty will be remembered as a loving daughter, sister, mother, wife, grandmother and friend.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Walker Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at Wetumka Cemetery.
