  • Oklahoma Baptist basketball alum Nate Brumfield has been named Best Import by the Philippine Basketball Association.
Brumfield plays for Barangay Ginebra. He beat out Paul Harris, a Syracuse alum who was on the Minnesota Timberwolves preseason roster and in the Utah Jazz preseason training camp.
Brumfield, who has so far posted averages of 25.5 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.8 steals, had a 1,499 equivalent points total, way ahead of Harris’ 1022 and third-placed Alpha Bangura’s 577.
Brumfield’s win is largely attributed to his performance in the semis against Smart-Gilas and its towering frontline led by 7-footer Marcus Douthit (a 2010 Laker draftee).
The Oklahoma Baptist product became the first Barangay Ginebra import after Chris Alexander to win such honors. Alexander powered the Kings to the 2008 Fiesta Conference title.
Brumfield led Oklahoma Baptist to the 2010 NAIA National Championship as Tournament MVP and National Player of the Year.
