Nineteenth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist topped No. 10 Wayland Baptist and host No. 17 Southwestern College at the NAIA Mid-States Classic Saturday.


Nineteenth-ranked Oklahoma Baptist topped No. 10 Wayland Baptist and host No. 17 Southwestern College at the NAIA Mid-States Classic Saturday.
The Bison won its second consecutive meet, this time with 62 points, in the 21-team, eight-kilometer race. Southwestern was 17th at 104, edging Wayland Baptist with 105 points.
The OBU women placed sixth in the five-kilometer, 20-team race with 164 points. Wayland Baptist won with 58 points.
Cordell Baker led the Bison in third place with a 24:28.01 with Adam Godwin joining him in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish at 25:08.
Nathan Ellis was 14th at 25:43, Neal Ellis was 17th at 25:48 and Jory Custar rounded out the scoring in 19th at 25:53. Jason Ogan was 31st at 26:22 and Louie Cook was 33rd at 26:49.
Also for the Bison, Zekarias Cates was 37th (26:34), Fred Titera was 39th (26:39), Caleb Wolters was 54th (27:00), Patrick Lee was 76th (27:40), Landon Franz was 80th (27:45), Austin Germiller was 82nd (27:48), Jony Croston was 88th (28:00), Josiah Soap was 90th (28:04), Jordan Sinclair was 93rd (28:07), Zach Medlin was 111th (28:32), Ryan Brooks was 119th (28:38) and Jared Ogan was 124th (28:53) in the 209-runner field.
Freshman Hannah Helker led the Lady Bison in 13th place at 18:57 and was joined in the top 20 by Aubrie Dolliver at 19:11 for 19th place.
Nadia Majed finished 44th in 19:54, Taylor Painter finished in 19:56 for 46th and Sara Branson was the last OBU scorer in 20:10 for 50th place. Morgan Marshall was 54th at 20:14 and Danielle Riley was 60th at 20:21.
Also for the Lady Bison in the field of 171 was Lauren Wood in 62nd (20:26), Whitney Warfield in 63rd (20:28), Yesenia Avila in 67th (20:35), Amber Harper in 69th (20:37), Christa Humphreys in 79th (20:55), Amy McCarthy in 96th (21:21), Brandy Moore in 109th (21:50),
Emily Christensen in 122nd (22:35), Laura Voth in 129th (22:46), Katy Palmer in 130th (22:47), Mariah Strong in 139th (23;13) and Kirsten Stuckey in 146th (23:48).
OBU’s next action will be the Sooner Athletic Conference Meet Nov. 5 at Gordon Cooper Technology Center in Shawnee.
