Marion Elmer Porcupile, 86, died Oct. 8, 2011, at his residence in Gold Canyon, Ariz.
He was born Jan. 12, 1925, in Meeker to Bonnie Marie and James Henry Porcupile.
He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and served in the 2nd Marine Division seeing action on Guadalcanal, Tarawa and Saipan. He won the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He lived in San Diego, Calif., after discharge from the service. Here he married Kathryn Elizabeth Porcupile and with his wife raised three daughters, Susan Helen Pennington, Denise Marie Lasky and Nancy Elizabeth Sullivan.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, granddaughters, grandsons-in-law, great-grandchildren, a cousin and nephew.
He was a successful businessman, completing numerous projects for the San Diego Zoo, Sea World, the Wild Animal Park and the State Highway Department. After retirement, he was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and restored Ford T-Birds. He was also active in his MountainBrooke community, serving on the first homeowner’s board, architecture and safety committees.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Sunset room in MountainBrooke Village on MountainBrook Drive in Gold, Canyon, Ariz. Donations in his memory may be made to Hospice of the Valley.
