Oklahoma Baptist has signed Fort Cobb-Broxton senior Gavan Steinmetz for the 2012-13 men’s basketball season.
Gavan is the brother of Garrett Steinmetz, who was a starter for the 2010 NAIA Champion Bison.
Gavan, a  6-4 guard, averaged 14.8 points per game last season on his way to Class A state tournament Most Valuable Player honors as a junior. He was both Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association District 4 and Class A Player of the Year last season.
“OBU is always a top program in the state and in the national tournament ever year. They play the style of basketball that I am used to and I like playing,” said Gavan.
Garrett Steinmetz graduated last year.
OBU will launch its season Tuesday night at 7 by entertaining Central Bible College at the Noble Complex.
The Bison will also entertain East Central Friday, Nov. 4, then travel to Stillwater Sunday, Nov. 6 to play Big 12 Conference member Oklahoma State.
OBU was ranked seventh in the NAIA Division 1 men’s basketball preseason coaches poll that was released Monday.
The Bison are favored to win the Sooner Athletic Conference championship for the third straight season. OBU is coming off a 24-9 season that ended in the first round of the NAIA Tournament.
