The University of Central Oklahoma postponed the grand opening of its new rock-climbing wall from its original date of today to 1 to 5 p.m., Nov. 8. due to forecasted rain.

ocated just outside of the Wellness Center, the grand opening will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon followed by free climbing sessions and snacks for participants.

The rock-climbing wall is a great addition to the Wellness Center,” said Becka Johnson, Central’s coordinator of adventure experiences.

“Because the rock wall is outside, it offers an option to participate in some form of outdoor recreation right here on campus.”

During the grand opening, climbers can submit entries to name the climbing wall, and the writer of the winning selection will receive one free semester pass for climbing sessions.

“We want our members and the Central community to be involved in the climbing wall,” added Johnson.

“We’re encouraging them to give it a name that is unique to Central.”

The climbing wall features routes varying in difficulty as well as a bouldering area.

Those who wish to purchase climbing sessions are required to complete a one-time safety course for $25. Fees to use the climbing wall are $10 for two hours or $50 for unlimited sessions throughout a semester.
