Crowds flocked to downtown Shawnee all day Saturday to attend various Boo on Bell festivities as part of the annual Halloween event.
It was the first Boo on Bell for 15-month-old Carlee Steudeman of Earlsboro, who dressed up in pink as Minnie Mouse.
“She couldn’t keep the ears on,” said her mother, Rebecca Steudeman.
For Rebecca, who grew up watching the Wizard of Oz, it was nice to see her daughter make a new friend when they met Dona Heinzig, who was dressed up as Glenda the Good Witch.
Both Rebecca and Carlee’s grandmother, Cindy, participated in festivities so Carlee would have a fun way to celebrate Halloween, she said.
“It was a fun-filled family safe event,” Rebecca said.
Events throughout the day included the Frankenmutt Howl-o-ween pet costume contest, a hot dog eating contest at Coney Island, a parade called a “Boo-rade,” a Jack-o-lantern contest, a street dance and many others.
