Response to the “Cost of Green Energy in Spain” letter.

While Spain may be “broke,” I fail to see why we should curtail the research and development of solar and wind power in the United States! We currently send millions of dollars a day to Middle East countries to quench our thirst for oil and help make their economies strong. Why would we not want to invest in technology that will eliminate this dramatic negative cash flow? Green energy technologies are proven to work very well. They provide jobs to Americans in research, production, and installation! Keeping those dollars in OUR economy!

Germany is the leading solar producer in the world. They have taken control of their energy future by mandating the use of solar and wind power. They have a goal set to eliminate nuclear power by the year 2022 and reduce their carbon output by 20 percent in the same time period.

China will soon be the leader in the solar industry. We cannot afford to let that happen. We send way too many of our dollars to China already. We can become the energy superpower of tomorrow if we just would fund these programs like we do Big Oil.

The current administration is proposing $4.5 billion a year in cuts to the current subsidies to the oil and gas industry. If we can propose such large cuts, what is the total amount they are currently receiving? We need to wake up and realize oil and gas are not forever! We need to get serious about our energy future for this country. Invest heavily in renewables and they will become cheaper to use sooner, rather than later when we have to buy them from China.

We as a state should start adding incentives for solar and wind installations. Fund the P.A.C.E. program where you can borrow the money for solar or wind and pay for it in your property taxes over 20 years. This program is already in place but lacks funding. Wouldn’t it be better to produce part of that energy you use in your home onyour home?

We can do this! But we need people in Washington and the state Capitol to vote the voice of the people, rather than the voice of large corporations and utilities. They don’t want you to be your own power company!
