Justin Vermillion tossed a route-going four-hitter Thursday night as Bethel knocked off Chandler 8-4 at Bricktown Ballpark.

Vermillion fanned five and walked three in going to 3-1. Chandler’s four runs came in the bottom of the fifth on three of their four hits, an error and a hit batsman. That brought Chandler within 6-4 but Bethel responded with two runs in the top of the sixth.

Vermillion also stroked a run-scoring triple to left center in the first inning. Kaleb Stewart then drove Vermillion home with a sacrifice fly.

Hunter Heath of Bethel was 2-for-4, including a triple. Heath drove in a fourth-inning run on a single.

Stewart notched Bethel’s third triple of the night in the sixth inning. “The kids had a great time playing at Bricktown Ballpark,” Bethel coach Todd Brown said. “It was a great experience and the kids really responded. It was probably our best game of the year.”

Bethel, 6-5, entertains Purcell at 4:30 p.m. today in a varsity/junior varsity doubleheader.
