  • Replacement of the fishing dock at Shawnee Twin Lakes No. 1 is in the city’s budget for the new year.
The dock was damaged after a severe storm in August of last year.
City officials deliberated initially about whether or not to repair the dock or completely replace it.
“We are going to replace it for the fact that the cost to repair it is more than 50 percent of the cost of a new one,” James Bryce, Shawnee director of operations, said. Between the insurance adjustment check for the damages and the money allocated in the budget, the total amount available for replacing the dock is $180,000.
The budget will probably be presented at the next Shawnee City Commission meeting June 18, Bryce said.
If the city commission approves the budget, Bryce estimated that the city would start accepting bids in early July and will have approved a bid by mid-August, if everything goes as planned.
Bryce added that replacing the dock will probably take about 60 days. He said if everything goes as planned, the dock should be finished by mid to late October.
“We need to just put a new one out there and be done with it,” he said.
