  • Oklahoma Baptist football coach Chris Jensen bridged a decades-long gap in Bison football recently, meeting with former OBU gridiron standout Larry Harris.
Jensen, along with athletic director Robert Davenport and associate vice president Marty O’Gwynn, made the trip to Harris’ home in Roswell, N.M. The group presented Harris, a member of the last OBU football team in 1940, with a highlight video from that year, as well as a new OBU football helmet.
Harris said he was surprised by how heavy the modern helmet weighed, saying he did not know if he could run while wearing that helmet. He, of course, played with a somewhat lightly padded leather helmet which did not have a facemask.
“It was a great honor to meet Mr. Harris and have a chance to visit with him about his experience at OBU,” Jensen said. “He has been a significant supporter of this university for a long time and it was my pleasure to be able to express our gratitude.”
