Oklahoma Baptist’s baseball pipeline to California continues to reap dividends.
The Bison signed outfielder Kyle Wagner and pitcher Lesley Northcutt, both of whom played at Modesto Junior College.
Wagner was a two-time team Most Valuable Player and a 2012 first-team all-conference selection for coach Chris Rodriguez at MJC. He batted a team-best .329 in 2012 after posting a .333 average in 2011.
“Kyle is a very polished hitter and corner outfielder and has led Modesto in hitting the last two seasons in a very difficult Big 8 Conference,” said OBU associate head coach Chris Klimas. “We look forward to him being a middle-of-the-order offensive player next spring.”
Wagner was a four-time first-team all-league award winner at Ripon High School in California.
Northcutt was second-team all-conference as a relief pitcher for Rodriguez. He had two saves and a 0.66 earned run average. He chalked up 27 1/3 innings of work.
“Les will be a very valuable addition to our bullpen,” said Klimas. “He has the ability to pitch in short or long relief, which he has shown by posting a 0.66 ERA in one of the best California junior college conferences.”
Northcutt played at Grace M. Davis High School in Modesto.
OBU has already announced the addition of Californians Matt Page and Mason Ankeney to the baseball program.
